La Posada (The Inn)
St. Stephen's Church
6125 Carlos Avenue, Los Angeles (Hollywood)
Information and tickets: here or 323.469.3993
Write Act Repertory Company and St. Stephen's Church present La Posada, a cultural comedy by Los Angeles playwright Jose Cruz Gonzalez. La Posada combines family comedy with romance and Mexican folk tradition in the story of an elderly Mexican-American couple preparing to receive guests in celebration of Las Posadas. This traditional Christmas custom involves the entire neighborhood reenacting the efforts of Joseph and Mary to find shelter for the birth of Jesus. The couple, Aurelio and Anita, is magically transported through time while recalling their first encounter with each other. The (once again) young lovers contend with El Nino, Anita’s blustering ex-fiance, who challenges Aurelio to a showdown in which the victor in a chile-eating contest will claim the hand of Anita. Directed by Dick Post and produced by Lou Briggs, starring members of the non-profit Write Act Repertory and members of St. Stephen’s. Tickets: $10 ($5 for ages 17 and under). All proceeds benefit the non-profit work of Jubilee Consortium; Write Act Repertory Company; Delaney Wright Fine Arts Preschool; L.A. Voice and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. An author’s reception, featuring Jose Cruz Gonzalez, will precede the 7 pm show.
